Skytap on Azure Overview

At L3C we have deep expertise not only in AIX / OracleDB, IBM i and Linux but also the Skytap on Azure cloud platform itself.

Originally deployed on IBM Power9 servers, Skytap now deploys workloads on IBM Power 10 infrastructure. This is not an emulator, this is real IBM Power servers deployed in selected Microsoft Data Centres worldwide with low latency ExpressRoute connectivity to Azure native infrastructure.

Our Skytap on Azure services provide an end to end service covering design, landing zone build, migration planning & execution, set up of backup and monitoring and optionally the provision of AIX, IBM i & Linux managed services.

Skytap provides the IBM Power infrastructure and consumption, while L3C provide the migration and managed service expertise.

All our Services are provide for a Fixed Price giving you certainty.

  • Discovery & Design

    We perform a short discovery phase & then create high level & low level designs for the Skytap environment including connectivity, LPAR sizing, landing zones, IP addressing plans etc.

  • Landing Zone Build

    We build your landing zone(s) in Skytap for your connectivity, LPARs, High Availability/DR requirements, backup infrastructure & monitoring infrastructure.

  • Migration Plan & Execution

    We create the detailed migration plan for the respective waves and execute the data transfer in the agreed migration windows.

  • Backup and Monitoring

    We will implement & test your backup schedule (often using Commvault but not exclusively) & implement monitoring as required. We have L3C unique tooling to integrate AIX, Oracle, IBM i alerts into Azure Monitor.

  • Managed Services

    After an agreed period of hypercare we can optionally manage your AIX, IBM i & Linux environment in Skytap on Azure. Cost effectively and 24/7.
