The new IBM PowerAI V1.6 has been announced and will be Generally Available on 15th of March 2019.
The new package is part of IBM’s constant policy to refresh its open-source packaging under the name IBM POWERAI as well as developing the add-on technologies it provides – especially Large Model Support and Distributed Deep Learning.
Some of the most exciting news on this new distribution are the use of Conda, which will enormously help during the installation and support of the frameworks (Tensorflow and etc.). Also IBMers have been working on improving their Large Model Support for Tensorflow. We see the latter as also of critical importance as most of AI development concepts take place on Tensorflow and preferably use large model support in order to utilize the POWER server technology advantages.
Here are the features:
Ready-to-use deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Caffe, and Keras).
Powerful and scalable machine learning libraries (SnapML and NVIDIA RAPIDs).
Distributed as easy-to-install binaries.
Includes dependencies and libraries.
Easy updates: Code updates arrive from a repository.
Validated deep learning platform with each release.
Integrated ingest interfaces, with optional parallel transformation capability to unlock larger deep learning data sets.
Dedicated support teams for deep learning.
Designed for enterprise scale with multisystem cluster performance and large memory support.
L3C Cloud will provide availability on POWERAI 1.6 container instances immediately upon General Availability. You can use that on IBM AC922 instances.
