Migrating UNIX Apps to the Cloud
L3C hosted the first London Unix Meetup bringing together like minded people to discuss the challenges of UNIX and LINUX migrations and all things Cloud…
There was lively debate and discussion that would have extended well beyond our expected ending time of 7pm where we had to venture to a more suitable place for one of the hottest days in central London this year, yes the pub!!
Jerry Crossfield, of L3C opened proceedings with a debate on Cloud Technology Migration and the many challenges faced by organisations as they seek to gain the competitive advantage by adopting solutions that support a growth strategy while balancing the need for cost takeout and service level. Jerry’s background from IBM and more recently L3C gave a real world and experienced understanding of what makes a migration project successful. This was discussed for the majority of the meetup with vibrant discussion from the members about the challenges and opportunities Cloud gives and how legacy applications should not be ignored when considering cloud solutions.
Andrew Laidlaw from IBM was also on hand to give his experience from working with some of the biggest clients in the UK. The debate on cloud migration was so lively that we postponed the discussion on the AIX roadmap for the next Meetup.
We asked for any feedback on topics for the next Meetup and the consensus was around:
- Security in the Cloud
- Containers
- AIX Roadmap and futures
Thanks again for all who made it and we look forward to seeing you at the next one after the Summer break
