Why consider Cloud for AIX/Unix DR?
Having been recently appointed as a formal IBM Power Cloud partner (one of only a small number across Europe) we at L3C often get asked what workloads should be considered when moving to AIX or Unix Cloud. For those wanting to test the water DR is a convenient place to start.
Even with High Availability solutions, DR is still often a regulatory requirement in many industries, and with GDPR coming, even legacy systems that maybe hold some CRM records from a pre-Salesforce (or equivalent) system now come into scope as personal data must be protected and recoverable. If nothing else an effective and functioning DR solution is required to help you sleep at night.
A surprisingly high percentage of clients we come across (far too many in my opinion) are paying for DR, having signed up to a 5 year deal in a different time and place, openly admit that the DR is not functioning or not fit for purpose and no longer meets the required RTO/RPO. Considering a cloud based approach from a specialist AIX/Unix provider provides an ideal opportunity to achieve the desired service level often with a more cost effective and flexible model.
Other advantages include the ability to have the solution redesigned to meet current and future requirements; the ability to have the approach documented and therefore fully auditable with annual tests and better commercial models.
So if you are not convinced by your current DR set up either from a fit for purpose or purely commercial viewpoint and would like to:
- Work with experts to re-evaluate your design
- Have the approach fully documented and tested
- Have a RTO/RPO that really meets your business requirements in the digital age
- Have a better and more flexible commercial model
